Interpreting BMI Results

Judging or monitoring your Body Mass Index results ( BMI) is actually simple. This post is focusing on assisting you to interpret your body fat results. So this method of interpretation helps you figure out if you're :

Underweight
Normal Weight
Overweight
Obese

Below let us further look at each result from underweight to overweight and explain further so that we don't confuse ourselves.

Underweight BMI Results :

This interpretations of your BMI do not necessarily mean that you're unhealthy. But ofcourse it should raise some concerns if your results prove that you might be obese or underweight. So if your BMI results appear as being 18 or even less,  you should really start considering gaining a couple of kilos as being underweight can be a threat to your health. Ofcourse we all want to be trimmed and slim but that does not mean we should be underweight.

Normal Weight BMI Results :

For people with the results showing BMI number between 18 and 25 are considered to be having an acceptable and normal BMI. Ofcourse like i always it's not a measure for your health but an estimate of your body fat rather, even though if you fall under this category you can focus more on keeping your body the way it is. So i guess for people in this category it's safe to say  "WOOPIE", but remember to keep fit.

Overweight BMI Results :

When measuring your BMI and actually realising that it is over 25, then unfortunately you're considered to be overweight. Your Body Fat or Body Mass Index have to be at least 25 or less it can get very bad for people with a BMI of the above value. But what is mostly common is that people within this category often turn a blind eye to the possible health threats that they may be facing. We know that a BMI measure is not an accurate measure of one's health but i personally encourage people with this BMI value to do something to make sure they DON'T end up obese. So to be away from the risks of ending up not enjoying your life to the fullest due to heart disease, cancer or diabetes, i say take action and start losing some weight.

Obese BMI Results :

Well if it happens that you fall in this category i really believ that YOU need to take action, not tomorrow but NOW!. If your BMI is above 30, you're considered to be obese. Yeah we know that some people can live longer that 80 years in this category but then chances are slim and  we can't ignore the dangers and.  Let's face it you never wanna end up missing out on your children's lives, or ending up not reaching your goals just because you failed to do the simplest thing which working out and control your weight.

As these terms refer to excessive accumulation of body fat, one should always take his or her BMI into account . As calculating your BMI is not an exact measure of your body fact ofcourse, but this is a very reliable way of evaluating your body fat and it is safe to rather say that it is a relatively accurate mathematical measure of your body fat.
On our Previous post on What Is BMI we looked at calculating your body mass index using kilograms and meters. On this post the focus is on calculating BMI using inches and pounds. So lets Have a look at how to work out this measure.

Calculating BMI Using Pounds :

The BMI formula for your height in inches and weight in pounds is different from that one of using kilograms as a measure of your weight and meters as the height measure. Follow the below simple steps and also see the example after  :
1 Measure your body weight in pounds
2 Measure your body height using inches
3 Square your body height
4 Devide your body weight in pounds by the number you got from step three ( height in pounds squared)
5 Now multiply the answer by the conversion factor of 703

BMI Calculating example using Inches and Pounds:
(weight in pounds) / ( height in inches)( height in inches)  multiplied by 703

So we can see that calculating this way way is different from calculating  body mass index using kilograms as you multiply by 703 which is a conversion factor.

What Is BMI

Most people always find it hard to determine their Body Mass Index or BMI,  This  can be explained as a variety determined by identifying the amount of bodyweight someone provides against his or her height size. So Basically it is a ratio of your weight against your height.  BMI calculating is not for  figuring out excess fat percentage in your body, rather is designed with a general graph  or chat  that helps determine if you are obessed or underweight which inturn helps you realize if there's  a possibility for you to have weight related issues.

But it should be noted that BMI score does not neccessarily mean that you are unhealthy but rather an indication of you body ratio. so basically even if you could have a threatning BMI , it does not mean you not healthy but instead it tells you that you might have to drop your weight so it could be in proportion to your height.
So now that we got that point across we need to see exactly how to go about when working out your BMI.

How To Calculate Your BMI

Your body mass Index can either be calculated manually or using a BMI calculating Device.

Calculate BMI Manually Using A Formula :

Using weight in KG's And Height In Meters
1. Measure your weight in kilograms
2. Workout your height in Meters
3. Square Your Height
4. Then devide your weight by the number in step 3

example :

BMI=    (weight in kg)  / (height in meters)(height in meters)
